What are your thoughts on using this network?

I'm curious. We have some outstandingly creative minds in this network already. What do you think about using this as "part" of the new home for agjobnetwork? What else should be added? What do you like? What would you change?

Mark-

I really like this! Its fun!!!

I would add a tab for Job postings either from campuses or just in general. Or a link to another professional page that only the campus or job posters can access.
Just an Idea!!

I will get in contact with UWRF to see what they think!

Thanks!

Thanks for the comment Amy! I am picturing a front page, that links to this network page. The front page would be listed at www.agjobnetwork.com, which I own already. We can have a job board there, and then members of the network will also have the ability to discuss jobs in the forum. I am also creating two email lists. One that goes out daily, and one weekly. People can opt in to those lists, so they are sure to stay up to date.

I had the same thought as Amy, but I see where you are heading with the main page and the capability to further explore companies and representatives through this networking site. I like the ideas, and the project looks great so far! I am looking forward to seeing the great things that are yet to come!

At first I thought you may be able to create a Facebook Event and invite everyone in the group to the event to get them to join the network, but unfortunately that is not the case. However, you could post the website for the blog and job board in the "recent news" and "posted items" sections of the group. Also, you can now send an e-mail requesting group members to join because there are less than 2000.

In order to get more students to get excited about the group, I would think the most effective way would be to contact colleges and university departments directly. I believe many colleges would be able to forward this information to their students, and universities may have a newsletter specifically for ag students (I know Penn State does), and would be more than happy to include information about the resource in their newsletter.

I hope this information is helpful, and if I think of anything else I will be sure to post it!

Thanks for the comments Jodi! That gives a whole other option I hadn't thought of!

My 2 cents: Placing testimonials of members who have found a career opportunity, key networking opportunity, or people who just enjoy conversation to one another on the forum through Agjobsnetwork.com may be another way to help draw in other members and help them see the value of a site such as this.

Amanda,

Thanks for the idea - I've actually been saving comments as they come in. Just Friday, someone told me they got a job as a result of using this service. The new version of AJN will actually have a referral bonus system. So, when you refer people to jobs, you'll rack up points. Those points will in turn be redeemable for things you might value, like a Bass Pro Shops Gift Card, or free curriculum lessons for ag teachers. Still working out the details. How do you like that idea? We'll work to generate buzz around job listings!

I definitely think this should be the new home for agjobnetwork. I just linked through my favorites and landed on the blog posting/job list and it threw me off. It's so much more basic than this network you created and I think networks provide so much more interaction that people are used to these days. They would see it's more than a listing, we want to help them out and have them help us out. There is so much to do in the area of ag and so few of us to do it, so we shouldn't be afraid of competition!

Good thoughts Baley. Mainly, we have to use the job blog as part of the network to be able to handle the quantity of jobs we're listing. Then, we can aggregate them here in RSS feeds. I should note however, that the social community generates a little bit, perhaps 20% more traffic than the job blog, but combined they are both very powerful.

What would you think of an online career fair? We could exhibit companies - show off what is cool about them - and then let them list their job openings. Additionally - we continue to build community by rewarding our friends that forward jobs to other people through a rewards based system.

An online job fair would be great. I think people need to be able to sort the jobs by location and title or keywords...is that an option yet? I know you could search the blog, but it would be helpful for someone to see all jobs together due to their search results for the Job Fair too.

Mark,

One thing I have heard alot about in some of my business classes is that many larger corporations are holding career fairs online with interactive avatars in a 3-D world for the initial interview process. I have not experienced this in the agriculture field as of yet, but it might be interesting to see if any employers posting jobs here do this and organizing our career fair in that way.
