What would you add or change about the AgJobNetwork?

This is a radically disruptive new idea! A job site that is free to post employment opportunities? C'mon Mark - you're pulling my chain! But its true. Sure, we'll seek sponsors for various services, but by in large this is an open resource for all of us.
Chances are however, I've missed something. This launch is phase 1, and there will be more cool stuff to come. What should we add? What should we get rid of? All thoughts are welcome in a nicely stated manner.

Mark, I've just logged in for the first time and am starting to tour around a bit. This is awesome! You've done a wonderful thing for ag professionals. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this brain child!

Thanks Linda! I appreciate the encouragement. Please remember to tell your friends so we can make this thing really come to life. I am so happy with where we've gotten already - and so excited to see where we go!

I was looking at your job listing today, and I noticed (as you have said) it is more like a blog page. Based on that idea, is it possible to set it up with an RSS feed? That way some of us can subscribe to it and see new jobs as they are posted in our reader (instead of needing the email update).

Beyond everything else looks good. The layout is nice to use, and it will be fun to see how the community turns out.

Technical comment: I did notice this in your meta information http://www.agjobnetwork.com/AgJobNetwork/Jobs%21/rss.xml but it doesn't seem to be generating an rss feed.

Albert,

Hopefully, you will see the RSS Feed up and working soon. Initially it was available, and then it didn't work right. I decided it was more important to launch on time - than have all aspects in place. I'll send a notice when I get it working right. Thanks for the suggestion!

Mark,

An idea that I had would be to divide the job openings by area in the United States or even by state. I grant that the open forum used to display job openings now encourages discussion and puts the word of mouth engine to good use, but with the magnitude of jobs being posted and positive signs the sight has already shown for increasing the number of postings I feel it would be necessary to divide openings by state.

It would be great to make the job levels searchable (i.e., B.S.-level, MBA-level, etc.) to help job posters AND job seekers to make the best match.

Thanks for the great comments folks! I agree with you. It is probably time to start dividing jobs out by region or state, perhaps even industry focus. As technology gets easier - we could even add on text (as Adam and I have talked about), but make it specific to your niche in this vast industry. National FFA is doing something like that at convention this year - so I'll be interested to hear the response after this week.

In a couple weeks, I'll start looking at blog formats that would allow us to break things out by category, and that would be searchable by state. If anyone has an idea - email me at mark@agjobnetwork.com

Thanks again!

I think it's a great site, but so far I've been having trouble finding what I'm looking for. I've scanned through the jobs posted here, but I really haven't been able to find very many jobs that are simply farm hand positions, or management trainee positions on actual farms. I'm glad all these sales, marketing, and business management positions are out there for those who want them, but what about those of us who just want a career in farming? I'd really like to see a place where I can scan down through hundreds of positions available with titles like "ranch hand needed, western CO" or "year round crop help" or "field hand wanted". Where can I go to find that? Thanks.
