The Story of The Ag Job Network

August of 2008 brought about a telling sign that there was a need for the AgJobNetwork. As a way to gain a larger audience for my freelance/contract service for agriculture businesses (Aggie-Lance LLC), I created a conversation on Facebook. Very simply, I created a group dubbed AgJobNetwork. I asked people to chime in with hiring needs from anywhere in the agriculture industry.

Two Rules:

If you have a job opening post it.
If you know of someone looking - tell them about it, or apply for the jobs yourself.

Amazingly, within 30 Days, there were nearly 1,500 members opting in. It struck me that perhaps even agriculture professionals were looking for a new way to seek employment opportunities online. So, I marched forward and created an online social community on Ning. I formed email list serves for those that wanted to get updates via email. We spurred the conversation on Facebook by encouraging others to help promote. I even utilized a Twitter account to promote job opportunities and build commuity. The network grew. Now, after just 4 months in operation there are nearly 3,000 followers (in at least one of the multiple facets), and we’ve listed nearly 250 jobs.

Over the past several weeks I have heard from several members of the AgJobNetwork that have had success! I've heard from those that have hired people they've found on here. And I've heard from people that have been hired. It is an amazing, rewarding, completely organic, disruptive experience.

Feel free to share your AJN Story right here, by posting it in the comments section. Show other users how your life changed because you found value in networking for the betterment of your career and our industry! If you'd like to be a part of this network via email - Please fill out this form.

I was very excited when I came across AgJobNetwork since I was always looking for a job list that targeted my interests more closely when looking for work. All other lists try to target, but starting in the Ag niche market already is perfect! I work with several Fairs in California and I know of several Fairs that have a hard time finding people who have some sort of Ag related background so I listed my first Fair job opening (Entry Office Lead) at the AV Fair to much success. I received two fantastic contacts in the process and would have loved to hire both of them! I was very pleased in the quality of the applicants and have great confidence that anyone who posts a job on AgJobNetwork will receive the same quality of candidates because we all CARE about this industry! Thank you AgJobNetwork and Good Luck to all of you who post and all of you who apply! HAVE FUN!
