Continuing Education at The University of Vermont is seeking a Program Director/Lead Instructor for its new Farmer Apprentice Program. The program will be offered April 4– November 1, 2011 with educational sessions facilitated primarily at the Intervale Center located in Burlington, Vermont (www.intervale.org).
The Program Director/Lead Instructor will provide direction, instruction and content knowledge for the Farmer Apprentice Program. This includes working with program developers, faculty, farmers, students, and other stakeholders to effectively advance the program planning process, establish and manage budgets, identify and facilitate marketing strategy and tactics, process applications and admissions, and deliver the curriculum. Specific responsibilities include curriculum oversight and ongoing development, recruitment of students, student advising, program marketing, coordination of Farmer Mentor Program, proposal and grant writing for additional funding, and actively serving on the Program Steering Team. This is a part-time, seasonal position, requiring 20 hours per week with a full day every Wednesday from March 1-November 15, 2011.
The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of farming experience; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field; teaching experience; experience working collaboratively with farmers, buyers, students; and effective communication, project and resource planning skills. Basic word processing, spreadsheet, email and internet computer skills required. Experience in animal/meat/fiber/dairy/egg production desirable.
